Questions About Selling a Junk Car in Gary
Short answers to the questions people ask us most. For the long version on value, read what a junk car is worth in Gary and what changes the offer; for the steps, see how a sale works.
Price and value
How long is your offer good for?
It has no expiry. Once we give you a number, it stays the same whether you sell this week or next season.
How much is my junk car worth?
It depends on the car: its weight, the parts still on it, whether it runs, its paperwork, and the scrap metal market that month. Send the year, make, model and title status through the form and we call you with an offer for your car.
Why don't you post prices?
Because no single number fits every junk car. Two cars of the same model can be far apart once you count missing parts, running condition and papers. An offer built on your car's details is the only kind that should hold at pickup.
Does it matter if my car runs?
Sometimes. On common models, a working engine or transmission can be reused, so it helps. On cars valued mostly for their metal, it barely changes the number. We buy cars that run and cars that don't.
Will missing parts lower the offer?
Yes, especially the engine, transmission, catalytic converter and wheels. Tell us what's missing when we call and we price the car as it is, so nothing changes when the truck arrives.
Why is my offer different from what someone else got?
Usually because it wasn't really the same car: a different engine or trim, missing parts, a title versus no title, or a quote from a different month. Buyers also differ on whether towing comes out of the number. With us, towing is free.
Pickup and payment
Is towing free?
Yes. We charge nothing for the tow and deduct nothing for it from the offer.
When and how do I get paid?
On the spot at pickup, as the car is collected. Pick Zelle, Cash App, cash or another digital method.
What are your hours?
Phones and pickups run 06:00 to 21:00, seven days a week (Central Time).
Got two or three junk cars? Will one pickup take them all?
Yes. If you have two or three junk cars in the same yard or lot, one pickup can take more than one. List them all when we call.
Can you pick up from a repair shop or an apartment or HOA lot?
Yes. Shops, apartment complexes and HOA lots are all fine. Let the shop or the lot's manager know a tow truck is coming, since getting in is on you.
How soon can you pick up my car?
We can often pick up the same day. We agree on a time when we call you with the offer.
Where do you buy junk cars?
All over Gary, Indiana, including Glen Park, Midtown, Pulaski and Emerson, plus Hammond, Whiting, East Chicago, Munster, Highland, Griffith, Merrillville, Hobart, Lake Station, New Chicago, and across Chicagoland.
Do you buy cars that aren't junk?
We buy junk, wrecked and scrap cars, trucks, vans and SUVs. If your car is a good running used car with years left in it, a used-car sale will likely serve you better.
Title and paperwork
Can I sell a junk car without a title?
We can still help. Indiana lets a junk car change owners on either of two documents. One is the title; if yours is lost, a BMV duplicate costs $15. The other is a BMV certificate of authority, a $4 document you apply for yourself with proof the car is yours, such as your current registration. If the car is under 15 model years old, the law requires one of the two. Send us what you have (a bill of sale, the registration, an insurance card) and we'll say on the call which paper your car needs.
What do I do with my license plate?
Take it off. Indiana's BMV says the seller should remove the license plate from the vehicle at the time of the sale.
Who takes care of the new title?
The buyer. Indiana's BMV makes the purchaser responsible for getting a new title, registration and plate, so that part is on us.
